I can hear the chapel bell chime

Be forewarned, the following is another one of my "OMG PEEPULZ R CHANJING LOLOLOL" posts.

So I went to church today as usual, and lo and behold an old friend of mine was there. And let me put 'old' into perspective, we've maybe been friends for 3-4 years and enjoyed cruising around and just enjoying ourselves during summers. We kinda fell apart when I left for Calgary, but once I returned we went out for pizza. He's pretty fun to be around, and quite intelligent. It frustrates me sometimes that he doesn't have the drive to be something impressive. But, to his credit, he at least knows he's lazy.

Anyways, isn't usually the church going type, and when I talked to him (and met the girl he brought) I discovered he's engaged. Apparently they're aiming to tie the knot around the end of May. Yeah, I told him I'd probably be working in Alberta at the time, but I think I'd be willing to fly back out for a weekend. That is, assuming I get invited. Like I said, we haven't really hung out a lot over the past two or three years.

So I guess this kind of shook me up that a close friend is getting married. I really hope everything goes well, and that his lazies don't get in the way. He was always good with the lady folk, something I admire him for, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that he's found his ultimate catch. I guess things like this are a bit of a rough awakening to how you're doing versus your peers. Makes me wonder how I stack up to others my age. But now I'm just rambling, so I present some art:

Been a pretty sub-par week sketching wise, that's about the best I have to offer for the last seven days worth of work.

This week I have a Midterm in Music. I just got the songs onto my computer today, so I can begin to memorize the composer and title. Then I have to go over my notes - there are a lot of dates and facts, this semester of the course has been pretty note-heavy. Might make the midterm fairly unpleasant.

I've been hit with some lazies myself as of late, and that may be in part to just getting Knights of The Old Republic installed last week. It's rather embarrassing that I beat it already, but like I've always said - I'm a sucker for a videogame with good story telling. I'm not too fond of it being an RPG, but overall it was an excellent game.

Anyways, go here and look at the top banner and nav bar: http://hvw.solarbotics.com/
That's all me baby. Well, I didn't code it, but I did the photoshop work. Dunno why I think it's such a big deal.

Lida Rose, I'm home again, Rose
To get the sun back in the sky
Lida Rose, I'm home again, Rose
About a thousand kisses shy
Ding dong ding
I can hear the chapel bell chime
Ding dong ding
At the least suggestion I'll pop the question
Lida Rose, I'm home again, Rose
Without a sweetheart to my name
Lida Rose, now everyone knows
That I am hoping you're the same
So here is my love song, not fancy or fine
Lida Rose, oh won't you be mine
Lida Rose, oh Lida Rose oh Lida Rose

Dribbling the ball

I've been losing a battle to the lazies as of late. Sleeping in almost every day to 10AM, bumming around on the internet instead of getting down to assignments... Sigh. It worries me for some reason. To think, right now I'm only living 12 hour days. I'm losing so much to sleep especially. Maybe I'll get in a proper rhythm if I start confining myself to just 8-9 hours of sleep. Maybe it'll give me more energy or something. Maybe. Ugh.

Right now I'm also knocking a decision around in my head. To contact, or to not contact someone that you never really knew that well after they'd gone through the trouble of giving me their info. A peculiar position. I've had the email address sitting here on my desk for a week now. I look it over, but never do anything with it. Gah, I hate having the ball in my court.

That worst day of the year is coming up in a few days. I need to think of something dark and morbid to draw. And, speaking of that whole sketch thing, guess what? It's a LEAP YEAR. Make that 365 + 1 sketches. Heh. And, of course, art:

I think he's my best Batman yet, I really like it.

Well they barrelled down

By the farmhouse and the pasture
They barrelled down the back roads

Sipped a little dealach just to
get the diddle flowing
Sang a gaelic song there was no radio

Percipitation

Life without glasses just contains gaussian blurs and lens flares. Which is odd, because there aren't any lenses.

I've been having problems sleeping lately. My mind seems to take bits and pieces of whatever it was that I did during the day, mash them into one wonderful mess, and then tries to sort them out. What happens is that I end up awake enough to know that what I'm thinking doesn't make sense while getting frustrated, and asleep enough to be drowsy and not able to change my train of thought. For example, yesterday I drew, played Command & Conquer 3, and watched the season premiere of Lost. What resulted was that the answer to all of Lost's issues was the key to breaching the enemy fortress in C&C, and I obviously had to draw it to work. Ugh - I get no mental rest.

I have to say that I'm enjoying C&C. I got ahold of it late last week and am currently on Act IV of the GDI campaign. I was pleasantly surprised at how much this felt and worked like ye olde Command and Conquer. I can't necessarily point a finger at it, but the units, interface, and gameplay mechanics all seem to mesh just right so that it gives me nostalgia for C&C Gold (which was probably my first RTS). Oh, and the corny, over-the-top cut scenes probably help a lot too. Anyway, it (thankfully) feels miles different from the likes of Tiberium Sun and Generals. The latter of the two should'nt have even been branded Command & Conquer, it was probably the low point in EA's direction of the franchise.

Anyways, art:

Inspired by Del Shannon's Runaway, it probably took me about 15-25 minutes to do. I was surprised at how easily it came together too, I only had to fight with the left hand and the right foot. Everything else was pretty much done on the first pass. I think I'm enjoying this 'sketch-a-day' thing.

As I walk along,
I wonder what went wrong,
With our love, a love that was so strong
And as I still walk on,
I think of the things we've done
Together, a-while our hearts were young
